Matthew Yurko – Head Chef
Flames from a gas BBQ ignited 16-year old
Matt Yurko's passion for cooking, as he replicated a recipe from television for his parents. Ukrainian by heritage, Matt was taught respect for food from a young age.
With humble beginnings as a pot washer, he quickly established himself as a leader in the kitchen, with a natural ability to bring out the best in food. Qualifying at Morgan's Seafood Restaurant in Redcliffe, Matt worked at Brisbane stalwarts such as the Port Office Hotel & Eves on the river before taking on a sous chef role at 5 star Hamilton Island Restaurant 'The Beach Club,' under classical French chef, Stephanie Rio.
Moving from here to London, he combined extensive travel of Europe and Asia with first a sous chef role for Ricker Group restaurant 'Cicada,' and then as head chef at renowned restaurant 'Pacific Oriental,' both specializing in Asian fusion.
Matt brings to Kingsleys an old school style of cheffing, combining discipline, technique and tradition with a genuine love of food, big, gutsy flavours and fun, interactive eating.
